Honolulu International Airport
The Honolulu international airport now known as the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport is the main gateway to Heaven, the Hawaiian Islands. A small-sized airport in the middle of the Pacific Ocean hosts over 9 million visitors nationally and internationally every year. In 2017 the Honolulu International Airport was rededicated as the Daniel K. Inouye International Airport out of respect for the legendary US Senator Daniel K. Inouye. A man who was a veteran of the second world war and also spent more than half of his life in the United State Senate. The Honolulu International Airport is located about 9.6 miles from Waikiki, 3.2 miles from Pearl Harbor National Memorial and Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, 7 miles from National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, and 5.6 miles from Honolulu port. The Honolulu airport is the main pick-up location for those are coming to Honolulu for an Oahu day trip tour such as Pearl Harbor tours, Honolulu city tour, Oahu Tours, and Oahu grand circle island tour. Honolulu airport is the only location for pick up for Hawaii island hopping packages.

The Daniel K. Inouye International Airport was built in 1927 and was Hawaii’s first complete airfield. The airport has a large runway built on reclaimed land called the coral runway. This runway was designated as an emergency landing strip for the Space Shuttle. On any given day, there are around 190,000 visitors to Oahu, which is up from around 8,000 during the COVID lockdowns and still down from the 200,000 visitors in 2019. This makes the Honolulu International Airport a very busy place. The Honolulu International Airport shares some facilities with the adjacent Hickam Air-force Base, so it is not uncommon to see military aircraft coming and going as your plane taxis out to the runway. The body of water next to the airport is called Keehi Lagoon. It was once used as a takeoff and landing area for seaplanes and flying boats. The Daniel K. Inouye International Airport has three main terminals. One for inter-island flights, one for international and domestic flights to the US Mainland, and the final is for small planes. There are also handling facilities for private planes and helicopters. Many helicopter tours operate from this area.
