Visit The USS Oklahoma Memorial

Launched on May 16, 1916, the USS Oklahoma was the 37th battleship built by the United States. During WWI, she joined the Atlantic Fleet and was an essential escort for military convoys going from the U.S. to the United Kingdom.

She paroled the Atlantic, Pacific, and Mediterranean Seas in the years leading to WWII. When the Pacific Fleet moved from San Diego to Honolulu, her new home became Battleship Row at Pearl Harbor. On December 7, she capsized after the first Japanese torpedo hit her broadside. The USS Oklahoma had the second highest casualties of the attack, in which 429 officers, sailors, and marines lost their lives.

The USS Oklahoma Memorial is located next to the Battleship Missouri on Ford Island. The memorial is for the men who died aboard the USS Oklahoma battleship.

The USS Oklahoma Memorial sits just outside the entrance to the USS Missouri Battleship on Ford Island. There is no separate entry fee so you can just go there on your way to see the Battleship Missouri.

The USS Oklahoma Memorial is within easy walking distance of the battleship USS Missouri and consists of 429 seven-foot high, white standards, each with the sailor’s name and rank. The black granite symbolizes the ship’s hull, and the white standards are the sailor coming home for the last time. Viewing the Memorial, you cannot help but get emotional seeing the hundreds upon hundreds of white bars, each representing a lost American.

Transportation to the USS Oklahoma event leaves every 10-15 minutes from the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center. Transportation is included with admission to the USS Missouri or Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum. If you do not have a ticket for either, there will be a fee to catch the Ford Island Shuttle.
